Our modern world.
So far in my life, there has been a lot of groundbreaking ideas, new technologies, and a whole new world of physics and astronomy have unfolded and we are getting a better look and understanding of our universe. It seems so unreal. Just a bit more than twenty years ago we were using brick sized cell phones and huge bulky computers. Now out computers ARE our phones! Seems like we're living in a golden era. Not exactly. Along with all of these amazing advances, there have been major setbacks and problems such as wars, oil spills, financial crisis, corruption, global warming, and most importantly to me, major overfishing. But today, July 28th, we are living in an even newer era of a possible hell on Earth. We have reached our tipping point. Seriously. Remember when all of those environmental speeches ended in 'we still have time though!' Well, those ages are over and we have reached our end. If we don't make major changes in at least five years, we will probably end ourselves. We have to erase everything we know and start over. Save the rainforests, save the ocean, save the arctic, hell, save everything! Just last week, the annual melting of the Greenland surface ice happened in just four days. Four. 98%. Almost all in four days. Shell is attempting to drill in the Arctic, which plays an important role in controlling our climate. If there is an oil spill there, we won't be able to clean it up without causing more damage. Greenpeace has gathered over 1,000,000 signatures and is declaring that the Arctic shall be a wildlife sanctuary. That's what everyone shoulod be thinking. Now you probably didn't know this, but to save our oceans, we would have to place over 40% of it in a sanctuary/ protected area. Now I'm going to stop here, no conclusion. Think, and comment. Thank you.

My plan for the oceans.
Everyone has a plan for something, wether it be a wedding, your life, or evn your day, you probably know what you're doing. Well, I have plans like that too, but I also have a plan for saving our planets most important resource- the oceans. Here it is, simplified, but anyway... Okay, first off we need to limit fishing so extremely that only people who absolutely need to eat fish can. To me, fish dosen't seem to be a luxury food but that is where we are heading. We take way too much out, and not in the sense that we are taking out just that fish. To help you better understand I will create a scenario. We are longline fishing for Tuna in the Gulf of Mexico. In the morning, you check your lines. Out of your 100,000 hooks, only 500 are Tuna. The rest are other fish which you throw back into the ocean. Dead. See what I mean now? That's called bycatch. You are bound to get some, but we have to also manage bycatch. Next point in my plan. Stop oil drilling for a period of time. With the state of our Oceans worsening every day, we can't afford to have another oil spill, and an oil spill in the Arctic may push the planet to it's tipping point. Third point, marine mammal capture. We have to stop the capture of dolphins, porpoises, and others like dugong, etc. it sends out a wrong image. Next, media explosion. Remember the overnight sensation that was KONY 2012? Yeah, it did worse to invisible children than good. Everyone hopped on the bandwagon and left it days later, humiliating the cause because of the epic failure that the video campaign was. See where I'm going? We can't afford to have a crappy epidemic of a video that will have facebook exploding and youtube cheering. We need a group of stable, well educated, and brave people to do this alone. Not with the help of the hipster population. (Nothing against hipsters) That does not mean that the public should not know what's going on, just not a viral video that gains wanna be activists. Along with this media thing is the hit television show Whale Wars. It is the least bit of activism, it's eco-terrorism. You can't solve this problem by harassing the people who cause this problem. Rather than just sitting at home watching and rooting for Sea Shepard and changing your facebook picture to Paul Watson bacause he is in prision you should get on the internet and start media protests or even try to change Asians minds and have them boycott or something! Seriously. Well, that's pretty much it. Remember, be rebellious, break the rules, and try something new. Have a nice day!
